COLLECTING DRAGONFLIES

Collecting is one of my great interests, and during the years I've been collecting many kind of things. One of my older passion is for dragonflies: my sister and I have been collecting dragonflies since we were kids. We keep on looking in shops wherever we go and attend art auctions and bid on everything dragonflies related! We really enjoy finding pieces we don't have already and even did not expect to find. But obviously the best part is succeeding in obtaining them!

We really enjoy collecting dragonflies because there are so many styles and mediums we can find and it's a collection we know we will never complete. It's just impossible to catch everything dragonflies related!

Besides looking into every shop I go, expecially when I'm abroad (I found wonderful glass dragonflies when I went to Italy!) I also check nearly daily online auctions to find that particular item which I know is waiting for me.

This way I was able to find very interesting items some of which are among my favourite. One is an exquisite antique art nouveau French vanity set made by a silver hand mirror, a comb and a brush. The three have an extremely detailed thin dragonfly beveled on the silver and the monogram R.P. with the date 1911. The brush's bristles appear to be slightly damaged but the overal appearance of the set is simply enchanting.

Another incredible piece found on eBay is a beautiful old sundial with a large dragonfly with its tail pointing to the hours which are embossed all aroung inside beautiful waterlilies.

Then, among my favourite dragonfly findings on eBay is a huge vintage rinestone brooch.

Last, but not least, one of my most precious items: an old, exquisite tasseled lace Italian table cloth totally covered in the finest Italian hand work with butterflies and dragonflies playing around the drapes and on the top as well.
